This session was such a great example about why you really need to sit back and let the kids dictate what they want to do. If you are able to do this, the kids will truly have fun, the adults will feel relaxed, and everyone will have a much better time. These twins wanted to enjoy themselves. You could tell the minute they hopped out of the car and started marching towards the beach. It was game on. If we had forced them to pose or harped on them to look a certain way, they would have been miserable and maybe even never want to take another picture. Instead they romped through the sand, strolled along the pier, and finished the afternoon with a full splash into the water. The best part was watching their faces when they ran through the water. At first they weren’t sure if they were allowed to get wet but as soon as mom and dad gave the ok, they raced for the water and dove in. It was so much fun!
So remember, next time you are with your kids, relax and enjoy the time and the best pictures will come. Here are 3 tips to help you let the kids have fun.
1. Seek to capture life exactly as it is…don’t try to pose the scene, instead look for interesting light to highlight what your kids are doing.
2. Talk to the kids, ask them questions, be curious about what they are discovering. As you do this and they excitedly show you, you will be able to photograph the best expressions.
3. Finally, don’t forget to put your camera down every once and a while. You want to enjoy the fun and not only be stuck behind the camera. Instead hire us and we’ll take those pictures for you.
